O’Donnell received a melanoma skin cancer diagnosis in the autumn of 2016.
Melanoma in situ, which denotes that the disease was limited to the epidermis and had not yet metastasized or migrated to the dermis, was the official diagnosis.
A “three-inch-long chunk of skin from the top left corner of [her] back” was removed during surgery that she received shortly after.
She claims that because of her high risk, she now has routine skin examinations “every three to four months” and “many skin biopsies.”
Furthermore, since receiving her diagnosis, O’Donnell is working as a skin care champion, urging people to practice healthy skin care habits like using sunscreen and getting frequent dermatological checkups, especially for women.
She talked openly about her diagnosis with her dermatologist live on CBS This Morning in 2017.
